INTIME 2012 Symposium - Notations: composer/performer dialogue
Deadline: 5 de Setembro de 2012
In recent decades practice in the notation and performance of new music has continued to innovate and experiment. The nature of notation, its functions and uses as well as performers’ approaches to realisation and interpretation seem as open-ended as ever. In the digital age the dialogue between composer, notation and performer remains vital, and the collaborative process continues to take many forms.
This symposium seeks to discuss and theorise current practice in these areas as well as to deepen our understandings of existing repertoires and traditions within new music, such as experimentalism and minimalism.

International Conference on Music Semiotics in Memory of Raymond Monelle
Deadline: 1 de Junho de 2012
The Department of Music at The University of Edinburgh presents an international conference on Music Semiotics in memory of Professor Raymond Monelle on 26-28 October 2012. The aim of the conference is to promote the work of Professor Raymond Monelle in semiotics through the presentation and discussion of ‘new’ musical ‘topics’ as they emerge in the West European repertoire and in popular music during the last two centuries. The in-depth investigation of musical topoi was one of the main musicological outputs of Professor Monelle, a theory which has emerged in recent decades as a powerful tool for the analysis of musical signification. Topic theory suggests that a musical style which can be defined without the aid of a verbal text or title -that is, by purely musical characteristics- is a true musical topos. Musical topics are considered ‘cultural units’ that express different cultural contexts and reflect the political, social, and religious conditions of each era. They manifest themselves in concert halls, music festivals, practically every location where musical performance and attendance is occurring, and through any modern audiovisual means.

Massenet and the Mediterranean World – International Conference
Deadline: 15 de Maio de 2012
The Centro Studi Opera Omnia Luigi Boccherini, Lucca, in association with the Palazzetto Bru Zane - Centre de musique romantique française de Venise and the Observatoire interdisciplinaire de création et de recherche en musique de l’Université de Montréal , is pleased to invite submissions of proposals for the International Conference “Massenet and the Mediterranean World,” to be held in Lucca from Friday, 30 November until Sunday, 2 December 2012.
Organized in conjunction with the centenary of the death of Massenet (1842-1912), the conference proposes to highlight various aspects of the composer’s life and works, both within the musical context of fin-de-siècle Europe and from the point of view of the reception of his operas. In the last fifteen years, several elements of Massenet’s oeuvre have received renewed critical attention. This conference intends to focus on the close rapport that Massenet cultivated, at different stages of his career, with the various countries around the Mediterranean basin, both as sources of inspiration for new works and concerning his relations with other composers as well as performers.
